This one was a commission for a friend to give their spouse as a Christmas present. A hammer dulcimer stand in cherry with fully adjustable height using sliding dovetails. Custom CNC cut knobs lock everything down at whatever height you need, and 3D printed TPU bumpers protect the instrument where it sits in the stand. Laser engraved a personal message on the inside to complete the gift.
Sliding dovetails are satisfying joinery to get right at the best of times, but doing them as part of an adjustable mechanism that needs to move smoothly and lock solidly added some extra complexity. This one checked a lot of boxes: traditional joinery, CNC, laser engraving, and 3D printing all in one build.
